Flippi, Flappy, Nippy, Flibberty, Boyo, Body Boy, Buddy, Himbs, Chisel Face, Monkey Butt…the nicknames and memories are endless.

He was the sweetest, most loving boy who provided more than eighteen years of friendship. He was a great traveler, enjoyed playing fetch, was an high quality biscuit-maker, and loved everyone he met unconditionally.

Flippi was ready - in the past week he started avoiding us and hiding in dark places, refusing cuddles, offering no purring and where he was once entirely food-motivated, he stopped eating very much. This journey was no longer enjoyable for him and it was time to let go.

This morning he came into the bedroom in the early hours and let me love on him a bit while I told my partner the story of Flippi’s “Gotcha Day”. We all hung out quietly, he got all the “disgusting” cat gravy he was so fond of, some gentle face scritches, and a nice wet-nap bath.

Dr. Toby was gentle, kind, and reassuring that we were doing the best most heroic thing for Flippi. He got pain relief, anxiety relief, and in the most beautiful fashion, he gained his wings with us holding him while the cosmically-timed song “Ashes to Ashes” by David Bowie came on in the background.

There’s never an easy way to say goodbye, but with the help of NV Pet Hospice, it was perfect and peaceful, if such a thing is possible.
