When it rained, Duppy would run outside and try to eat the rain as it poured off the roof, like the sky had made a special treat just for him. He did the same with the hose and his sprinkler pad, snapping at the water with pure joy.
The day he realized he could jump into the pool was the day we lost all control and he never wanted to get out again. And once, when my husband playfully pushed me in, Duppy didn’t hesitate. He leapt in after me to “save” me, our brave little lifeguard.
He was always watching, always protecting, always loving us in the most wholehearted way.
